In the month of June the IRFF-Europe representative and International field director Dr. Massimo Trombin presented a paper at the African continental conference in Nairobi, Kenya organized by the IIFWP on the theme of Humanitarian Service (See: www.iifwp.org/Activities/2001/Tour/). The paper was called "A New Vision For Leadership Through Public Service: Toward Peace in the Family and Peace in the Nations" .

In connection with the conference, a series of meetings were held with the Kenya IRFF committee on the preparations of the IRFF-RYS August project (See: Kenya - August 2001: Construction of a medical rural clinic). At the moment the local communities are producing the bricks for the building (about 5000 of them) with the manually operated machine donated by IRFF last year and preparation for the building's foundations are under the way. For the up-coming volunteer's project, we expect participants from 14 different nations.

After Nairobi, a visit was also organized to the districts of Lira (See: www.uganda.co.ug/lira/) and Mbale (www.uganda.co.ug/mbale/) in Uganda. In Lira Mr. Okello founded - inspired by last year program (See Report: Peace Program in the Lira district) - the "Agent of Peace Association" and with the former IRFF participants of June 2000 project, implemented the work and vision throughout the district of Lira, encouraging peace and reconciliation. In July 2001, another rural project will be hosted by IRFF, to train 40 selected former guerrillas from CAMP and now "Agents of Peace". Later those 40 will teach the same rural program to the remaining 460 former rebels that surrendered last year.
