Participants:
A special focus
on island nations and the USA but participants is welcome from all nations.
The age for participation will be 15-21.
Requirements:
All participants
need to go through a selection process. Selection is through application,
which includes essay questions and recommendations. The project is limited
to forty-five participants. Some staff positions are available for adults
and those 18 and above.
Costs:
Air travel is the responsibility of the
participant. The admission fee for the project is $ 350, which will cover
the food, housing, local travel and programs during the project.
Participants will be meet at the airport in Port of Spain and be brought to
the orientation sight. International arrivals are expected on August 6th.
Norms:
An environment of sharing, cooperation and friendship, hard work
and reflection are considered the norm in our community. Participants are
expected to be involved in all daily programs without using alcohol, drugs
or focusing on exclusive relationships. Good health is required to keep up
with the work and the warm to hot climate. Our community is an interfaith
community, which promotes understanding and cooperation rather then
proselytizing. We encourage people to look at themselves as representatives
of their nation and culture and to behave accordingly.
Language:
The project is in English.
Health and Climate:
The climate in Trinidad
is warm to hot. No medical shots are required. Tetanus shots are optional.
Work Project:
Participants will take part in Habitat for
Humanity’s International effort to help provide housing for low income
families. No special skills will be needed but any expertise will be
appreciated. Additional work projects will be found that will be suitable
to both
the community and the individual participants.
This Friendship America’s Project will: provide youth and young adults an opportunity to work with peers from over ten nations. The program includes periods of work service with Habitat for Humanity and other service organizations, cultural programs, education presentations, a character education component along with team discussions and sightseeing.
Participants will come from various faiths and will be in an environment where all faiths are respected and appreciated. All participants will be given an education packet to help them prepare for the education component of the program and to better prepare for the culture and environment of Trinidad and Tobago.
